Die Künstler stehen einander in einem bemerkenswerten Spannungsverhältnis gegenüber, sowohl durch ihre Zugehörigkeit zu unterschiedlichen Generationen als auch zur europäischen bzw. amerikanischen Tradition minimal-konkreter Kunst und deren übergeordneten kulturellen Bezügen. Sie stellen mit RELATED LINES erstmals gemeinsam in einer Duo-Ausstellung bei dr. julius | ap aus, nachdem beide schon 2012 an der internationalen Gruppenausstellung FutureShock OneTwo beteiligt waren.
Die beiden Künstler werden einander sowie auch den Räumen der Galerie mit installativen, präzise gesetzten Arbeiten begegnen.

Hartmut Böhm ist einer der führenden Vertreter der europäischen Konkreten Kunst und einer der einflussreichsten reduktiven Künstler seiner Generation. Geboren 1938 in Kassel studierte er an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste ebenda bei Arnold Bode, dem Gründer und Kurator der Documenta.
Im Jahr 1959 schuf Böhm seine ersten systembasierten Arbeiten. Wenige Jahre später waren seine Arbeiten Teil der wegweisenden Ausstellung Nouvelle Tendance: Propositions visuelles du movement international, die im Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris von April bis Mai 1964 gezeigt wurde. Die Ausstellung führte in neue Kunstbewegungen wie Op Art, Kinetische und Konkrete Kunst, Zero, GRAV, Gruppo T und Gruppo N ein und hob insbesondere solche Werke hervor, die Konzepte von Bewegung durch serielle Wiederholung vermittelten.
Böhm wurde seit 1964 in über siebzig Einzel- und Duo-Ausstellungen gezeigt und hat an hunderten internationaler Gruppenausstellungen in Museen, Galerien und Non-Profit-Initiativen teilgenommen. Matthew Deleget [*1972 in Hammond, Indiana] ist Künstler, Kurator und Kunstarbeiter. Er hat seine Arbeiten national und international ausgestellt, darunter in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in den USA, Europa, Australien und Neuseeland. Arbeiten von Deleget wurden von der Kuratorin Michelle Grabner 2014 in die Whitney Biennale im Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, aufgenommen. Weitere Museumsausstellungen sind etwa im MoMA / PS1 [Long Island City, New York]; Bronx Museum of the Arts [Bronx, NY]; Herbert F. Johnson Museum [Ithaca, NY]; Bass Museum of Art [Miami, FL]; und Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art [Indianapolis, IN] zu verzeichnen.
2003 gründete Matthew Deleget MINUS SPACE, eine Plattform für internationale reduktive Kunst in Brooklyn, NY. Seit 2006 hat er fast 50 Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen organisiert, sowohl in der Galerie von MINUS SPACE in Dumbo, Brooklyn, als auch an anderen kooperierenden Orten auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene, unter anderem in Mexiko, Belgien, Australien und Neuseeland.
MINUS SPACE Ausstellungen wurden unter anderem in Art in America, Artcritical, Artforum, Artnet Magazine, ArtNews, The Brooklyn Rail, Houston Public Radio, Huffington Post, The New Criterion, New York Magazine, NYFA Current, New York Sun, Time Out New York, Village Voice und The Wall Street Journal besprochen.
Matthew Deleget wird als Künstler vertreten von der Alejandra von Hartz Gallery [Miami, FL]; Peter Blake Gallery [Laguna Beach, CA]; und der Galerie Sonja Roesch [Houston, TX]. Er besitzt einen Master of Fine Arts in Malerei und einen Master of Science in Theorie, Kritik und Geschichte der Kunst, Design und Architektur des Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Er hat zudem einen Bachelor in Kunst und Deutsch des Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN. Er lebt mit seiner Frau, der Künstlerin Rossana Martinez [www.rossanamartinez.com], und dem gemeinsamen Sohn Mateo in Brooklyn, NY.

dr. julius | ap is pleased to announce that the two-person exhibition RELATED LINES featuring Hartmut Böhm and Matthew Delegetis still on view through February 14, 2015 on appointment by email.
The two artists create a dynamic tension by belonging to different generations, as well as to European and American traditions of minimal concrete art and related cultural references. RELATED LINES is their first two-person exhibition with dr. julius | ap. Both artists were included in the 2012 international group show FutureShock OneTwo at the gallery.
The two artists will interact with each other and with the gallery spaces through installation-like, precisely placed works.
Hartmut Böhm is a leading proponent of European Concrete art and one of the most influential reductive artists of his generation. Born in Kassel, Germany in 1938, he studied at Hochschule für Bildende Künste with Arnold Bode, founder and curator of Documenta. Böhm produced his first systems-based work in 1959. Several years later, his work was included in the seminal exhibition Nouvelle Tendance: Propositions visuelles du movement international at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France in 1964. The exhibition heralded in the new Op, Kinetic, Concrete, Zero, GRAV, Gruppo T and Gruppo N art movements and highlighted works that addressed the concept of movement as conveyed through serial repetition.
Böhm has mounted more than seventy solo and two-person exhibitions since 1964 and has participated in hundreds of group exhibitions at museums, galleries and non-profits internationally. Matthew has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. He is a member of American Abstract Artists, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation’s Artist Advisory Committee, and the board of The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.
In 2003, Matthew founded MINUS SPACE [www.minusspace.com], a platform for reductive art on the international level based in Brooklyn, NY. Since 2006, he has organized nearly 50 solo and group exhibitions at both MINUS SPACE’s gallery in Dumbo, Brooklyn, as well as other collaborating venues on the national and international levels, including in Mexico, Belgium, Australia, and New Zealand.
